Frequently asked questions about Free PDF Signer

Everything you need to know before you upload your first document.

Is Free PDF Signer really free?

Yes, completely. Free PDF Signer is free forever with no usage limits. You can sign as many documents as you need without ever entering a credit card or creating an account. There are no hidden tiers or expiring trials.

Do I need to sign up or create an account?

No account or email address is required. Go to the page, upload your PDF, and start signing immediately. We built it this way on purpose — sometimes you just need to sign one document without committing to a platform.

How do I actually sign my PDF?

After uploading your file, the PDF opens in our online viewer. Right-click anywhere on the page and a menu appears with three options: 'Add Signature', 'Add Text', and 'Add Date'. Click 'Add Signature' to open the signature pad, draw your signature, then drag it to the correct position on the page. When you're done, click Download.

Is my document stored on your servers?

No. Free PDF Signer processes your document entirely within your browser session. Your file is never uploaded to or retained on Signer HQ's servers. When you close the tab, the session ends and your file is gone.

Can I add text or a date as well as a signature?

Yes. When you right-click on any page in the viewer, you can choose to add a signature, add typed text, or add the current date. This lets you fill in fields, print your name, or annotate the document before downloading.

Can I sign PDFs on my phone or tablet?

Yes. The PDF viewer and signature pad both work on touchscreen devices. Open the page in any modern mobile browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox — upload your file, and use your finger to draw your signature.

Are electronic signatures legally binding?

Electronic signatures are legally recognised for the vast majority of business and personal documents in the US (under the ESIGN Act and UETA), the EU (under eIDAS), and many other jurisdictions. For highly regulated use cases such as wills, court filings, or notarised documents, consult a legal professional or use Signer HQ's full product which supports advanced signature standards.

What types of PDF files are supported?

Free PDF Signer supports standard PDF files (.pdf). If your document is a Word file or image, convert it to PDF first using your operating system's print-to-PDF function or a free converter, then upload it here.

What is Signer HQ?

Signer HQ is the full electronic signature platform behind Free PDF Signer. It adds contract templates, shared team folders, automated signing reminders, audit trails, and integrations. Free PDF Signer will always remain free for quick, one-off signing.
